They say that a picture’s worth a thousand words. In this case, the story behind the photo is just as, if not more, precious than the photo itself!

The aforementioned photo is of a Waffle House waitress going above and beyond for an elderly customer, and it has started to make the rounds on social media.

Laura Wolf was eating at the Waffle House in La Marque, Texas when she captured the above photo. Before snapping the image, Laura noticed an elderly man sitting at the counter. He had an oxygen tank and was “struggling to breathe.”

The man was also noticeably struggling to cut his ham. He explained to the waitress, an 18-year-old named Evoni Williams, that his hands didn’t work as well as they used to. “Without hesitation,” shared Laura, “[Evoni] took his plate and began cutting up his ham.”

“This may seem small but to him, I’m sure it was huge. I’m thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this world seems so negative.”

After Laura uploaded the photo and caption, the story began spreading. Evoni herself had no idea that a photo of her kind act made it online — or that she was receiving praise for what she did. “I didn’t know the photo was taken until a couple hours later,” said Evoni. “When I saw it, it’s just something I would do for anybody.”

Well it turns out, her good deed left a big impression on the thousands of people who have seen the photo, and on the Mayor who awarded Evoni with a scholarship in the very Waffle House where she works.

It’s nice to know that there are people like Evoni who are willing to do the right thing at a moment’s notice, simply because it’s the right thing to do.
